Project Overview
During my Advanced Media Design semester, I undertook a small project addressing cigarette butt littering. As I walked to school daily, I noticed a significant number of cigarette butts scattered across campus, even in designated smoking areas with ashtrays. This observation sparked my interest in investigating the issue and exploring potential solutions.
My Role and Responsibilities
- User Research: Interviewed smokers to gather more insights.
- Prototyping: Designed and tested a functional ashtray prototype.
- Development: Implemented an Arduino-based system to detect cigarette disposal in the prototype ashtray.

Reflection
This project was a rewarding experience as it addressed a real-world environmental challenge. It reinforced my desire to work in user interaction and UX design, particularly in areas that make a positive impact, such as addressing environmental issues. The lessons learned have shaped my aspirations as I prepare for my graduation internship, focusing on meaningful, problem-solving work.
